Types of Wounds 

Wound treatment starts with determining wound type. It is important that you know what kind of wound you are dealing with so your doctor can prescribe the right kind of treatment. There are eight wound categories1.

  • Diabetic / Neuropathic Ulcers
  • Venous Stasis Ulcers
  • Arterial / Ischemic Ulcers
  • Surgical Wounds

The Right Supplies for Wound Care

Hydrocolloid Dressings7

  • Available in paste, powder, gel or sheet/wafer forms
  • Water-resistant
  • Can be used for pressure ulcers

Hydrofiber Dressings8

  • Removes bacteria
  • Forms a cohesive gel activated by fluid levels
  • Can be used for pressure ulcers, surgical wounds, second-degree burns

Hydrogel Sheet and Amorphous9

  • Cooling sensation reduces pain
  • For minimal secretion
  • Can be used for pressure ulcers, and minor burns

Impregnated Gauze10

  • Gauze saturated with a water-based product
  • Rehydrates the wound bed
  • Can be used for pressure ulcers and minor burns

Non-Impregnated Gauze11

  • Can be made of cotton, polyester or rayon
  • Used for cleansing and packing wounds
  • Can cover a variety of wounds

Transparent Film Dressings13

  • Impermeable to liquids, water, and bacteria
  • Allows oxygen in
  • Can be used for pressure ulcers and second-degree burns

Alginate Dressing14

  • Made from seaweed
  • Partially dissolves to form a gel
  • Can be used for pressure ulcers, surgical wounds, and burns
